Java Neko

Neko Java Applet

Neko (Japanese for cat) is little cat that chases your mouse cursor around the applet. Thirty-two different poses are used and they're all formated as .gif files. (Since IPFW's web site manager only allows you to upload one file at a time, it took a long time to upload all these.) There are a few bugs with Neko, but I hope to fix them later. (I'll tell you when I do.) I want to thank the person who created these images and who started this program for me. I hope to build on to Neko in the future. (I've added some items to the program.) I might add sound, images, or another Neko, so come back often.

The original Neko program was written for X-Windows in Japan. Ever since then there have been Neko programs written for other operating systems. Most of these programs are Free-Ware and they're available all over the internet. I have Neko98 at home which runs on Windows95/98. In it Neko chases you're mouse on the desktop. There's also a configuration program included that allows you to change the cats speed, size, etc. If you're a C or C++ programmer, the source code can also be downloaded so you can add on or change how Neko works, provided you have a compiler. For fellow Java programmers, feel free to copy the source code and images of the my Java Applet version below. You can change it if you like, for your own Neko Java program.

This program uses the JDK 1.0 Event model. (For browsers that don't support JDK 1.1 Event model)
