In the Spring of 2000, I
became interested in Computer Aided Design for Lego bricks. While doing
searches on Lego Castles, I kept running across references to LDraw. I did a
search on LDraw and found the official LDraw
web page, featuring LDraw created by the late James Jessiman. I downloaded LDraw
and the parts library, and printed out the tutorials. I read through the
tutorial and the FAQ. In the FAQ, I found a Windows based LDraw program call
MLCad. I
downloaded it and used it to create the Lego Rockface.
I also located a website/discussion group dedicated to Lego called
lugnet, which stands for Lego User Group network.
While building the rock face, I realized that the part library was nowhere
near complete. I thought it might be fun and educational to create a Lego
piece. The FAQ had given the basics of the .DAT files, so I opened notepad
and started creating a piece.
