This book highlights the most important events in western history in an amusing, fresh way. Beginning with "Greek Stupidity" and ending in the "Age of Arrogance" --the book's common theme-- human stupidity-- ties together--in an a pathetically accurate fashion-- the last 2500 years.
One of the most amazing facets of history is that anything--a sickness, bad weather, or a lost messanger-- can and have turned the course of history. This book is a collection of essays by historians who took the giant leap into "What If". Each essay begins at a pivotal point in history and traces the ripples throughout history.
Tensions in the Middle East-- over dynasties, nationalisms, ideologies, and religions-- have existed for a long time. However, it was the decisions made during the last century (especially between 1914 and 1922) that have caused the recent upsurge in violence. Fromkin uses this book to try to answer the "how" and "why" behind the reshaping of a region.
