Please keep the following pieces of advice in mind when constructing your resume.
1) Be clear on what type of company you are sending it to. For example, every year we have students who apply to public accounting firms (audit and/or tax) but state on their resume that they would like to pursue a career in corporate accounting. This automatically results in the resume being disregarded since corporate accounting implies working for a single private company, which is not public accounting.
2) If you are applying to a public accounting firm, make sure you explicitely state when you expect to complete your 150 hours and be CPA exam eligible.
3) Be very careful with Objective Statements. Only use one if you actually have a clear statement that you can make. For example, do not state, "I would like to apply my knowledge of GAAP." That statement does not really state any information about you or your career goals.
4) Make sure you know if you are applying for a full-time position or an internship. If you state you are looking for an internship and the company wants a full-time employee, they will simply disregard your application. However, you could say, "Looking for full-time position but willing to do an internship if it may lead to a full-time position."
5) Have carrer services look over your resume a couple of weeks before you apply for a position. They will also be developing some accounting specific resume formats as well.
